Nazarov Type Cyclizations on an Osmium Dienyl Carbene Complex

The presence of carbon monoxide in the dienylcarbene complex [Os{═C(CH═CHPh)(CH═CPh2)}(CO)(CH3CN)2(PiPr3)2][BF4]2 promotes a 4π conrotation of the dienylcarbene to afford [Os(═CCH2CPh2CPh═CH)(CO)(CH3CN)2(PiPr3)2][BF4]2 containing a cyclic alkenylcarbene ligand, via the η1-cyclopentadienyl intermediate [Os(C═CHCPh2CPh═CH(CO)(CH3CN)2(PiPr3)2]BF4.
