The interplay between transition metal and carbene species has revolutioned the synthetic strategies for added value products. The electronic properties of the metal carbene intermediates vary from very electrophilic to strongly nuchleophilic that allow for a wider scope for these species in catalytic transformations ranging from C-H insertion, cyclopropanation, cycloadditions or olefin metathesis.
